INVENTORY, REUSE, AND CIRCULARITY AT THE HEART OF THE PROJECT
From the outset of the Van Volxem project, a thorough inventory of existing structures and materials was conducted to identify reusable elements. This approach, integrated early in the planning phase, aims to minimize waste while giving a second life to available resources.
As the general contractor for the project, EDK fully embraced this circular approach. Its openness to new practices enabled seamless collaboration with architects and the client to maximize on-site reuse. Key initiatives included preserving existing mineral wool insulation, sending sanitary fixtures to Batiterre for cleaning, and recovering and restoring tiles and flooring.
This collective effort demonstrates how reuse can be effectively integrated into a construction project, combining practicality with a strong environmental commitment.
